Hillsborough Play at Liverpool Cathedral

Halewood Academy was recently shortlisted in the Outstanding Arts in a Secondary School category of the Educate Awards.   Our Year 11 Drama group were asked to perform an excerpt of their powerful 'Hillsborough' performance.  They produced an outstanding 10 minute piece that brought together various elements of the original production.  In the grand setting of Liverpool cathedral the students stunned the audience with an extremely emotional performance.

Kim O'Brien, Executive Director of Educate magagazine, wrote to the school.  She said, "On behalf of myself and all the team at Educate Awards thank you to all the amazing students from Halewood Academy for performing their moving story about Hillsborough last Friday at the Liverpool Cathedral.  The individual performance of each student was outstanding and held captive an audience of over 330 people. We had on our table Dominic Beaumont, Press and PR Manager at Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse and, along with all the other guests on our table, he was truly blown away by the performance. Not only was the level of acting incredibly high but the knowledge of how the production came about and the students own input into it, made it even more special.  The Educate Awards are a wonderful opportunity to showcase the schools shortlisted in the Outstanding Arts Performance category and I congratulate the Halewood Academy for making that shortlist. I know that  the students’ performance on Friday demonstrated beyond this why you were in that list. I really look forward to the Halewood Academy entering the awards again next year!"  Here are a selection of photographs taken on the evening.
