Information for Parents of Y6 Pupils - posted 6th Jun

Today, we have written to all parents and carers of students who have been allocated a place in Year 7 for September 2019.  A copy of the letter is available to download HERE.  Unfortunately, we have had to cancel the Induction Day for students scheduled for Wednesday 3rd July.  The reason for this is that several areas of the school will be closed due to extensive building work that will create 10 additional classrooms for September 2019.  The final arrangements for this work have only been made in the last week and work is due to commence on Monday 24th June.  This means, sadly, that we will not have enough rooms to accommodate all 240 pupils as well as the students we have in school on an Induction Day.   I will contact your child’s headteacher to inform them of this decision.  We will, however, be able to go ahead with our planned Induction Evening for parents and students.  We will also offer tours of the school for any parents and students – details will be given at the Induction Evening.

Trip to Krakow - posted 12th May

Halewood Academy recently took 50 pupils to Krakow for a historical visit to the city and Auschwitz. The pupils were amazing throughout and their behaviour was impeccable, as was commented on by multiple people during our 3 days. During the 3 day trip, the pupils broadened their understanding of the Holocaust and how it had wider impacts on the world.
I would like to personally thank the staff who joined me on the visit; Mr Ellis, Miss Richardson, Miss Allen and Mrs Murphy. As well as the support from Mr Evans and Mrs Bain during the visit. Additionally, I would like to thank each and every pupil who joined me and gave me the opportunity to broaden their education on something that is a real passion of mine. All 50 of the pupils know how passionate about Holocaust education I am, and I would like to thank them for fully engaging in all of the tours, discussions and questions. There was a long and tiring period of pre-planning prior to the visit. However, the three days made each and every second of that time worth it.
During the visit, one of our pupils fell ill in Krakow. Thanks to the quick response of her friends, Olivia and Abigail, as well as the response of all of the staff, Grace was able to receive the medical attention she needed immediately.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to all students and staff who took part in the trip! I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.
Following the trip, Year 11 students, Cian Ryan and Toby Redmond, produced this amazing film - I would urge you to watch! - https://youtu.be/wl-YqN1rzAw

Hegarty Maths - posted 6th Mar

Halewood Academy students have recently been given free access to one of the most successful online Maths tutorial sites - Hegarty Maths.  Students have been provided with log in details and can access this from any device able to connect to the internet.  ALL students can go to our daily after school 'Hegarty Half Hour' sessions on Homebase 1.  Staff can monitor the progress students make each week and early signs are that this is really helping students to get a better understanding in areas that they sometimes find difficult.  The first Hegarty 'Champions' who have put in the most hours in the last week are; Year 7 - Elizabeth Pierce Year 8 - Joseph Spencer Year 9 - Samantha Soden-Barton Year 10 - Alex Luu Year 11 - Faith Jones.  Well done to all of them!  You can log on to Hegarty Maths through their website at https://hegartymaths.com/

Educate Award Winners! - posted 20th Nov

Halewood Academy was awarded the Innovative and Creative Literacy Award at this year's prestigious Educate Awards ceremony.  Mr Evans, Miss Archer and Miss Stafford were there to represent the school and were delighted to walk up the red carpet to receive the award.  Mr Evans, speaking about the award, said, "The work that Miss Archer did on the Pride and Promises anthology was worthy of an award - it was a piece of work that brought staff and students together.  Last year, she came up with the idea of publishing an anthology of poems based around the Halewood Pride and Promises theme.  I did not need to be persuaded to give the go ahead as everything about it made sense.  Knowing how much our English staff were doing in terms of promoting the love of reading and writing I knew our students, and lots of staff too, would get involved.  I, myself, submitted a poem and I am extremely proud to be a published poet!  I can't imagine how that feels for a student in Year 8 for example!  Working with Amazon, who published the book, Miss Archer spent a massive amount of time on the project which culminated not just in a published anthology but also a launch event where lots of students read out their poetry to invited guests. The fact that the students involved chose the charity Mermaids UK, a charity which provides support to students experiencing issues with their gender identity, to benefit speaks volumes about Halewood students too."
