Hegarty Maths - posted 6th Mar

Halewood Academy students have recently been given free access to one of the most successful online Maths tutorial sites - Hegarty Maths.  Students have been provided with log in details and can access this from any device able to connect to the internet.  ALL students can go to our daily after school 'Hegarty Half Hour' sessions on Homebase 1.  Staff can monitor the progress students make each week and early signs are that this is really helping students to get a better understanding in areas that they sometimes find difficult.  The first Hegarty 'Champions' who have put in the most hours in the last week are; Year 7 - Elizabeth Pierce Year 8 - Joseph Spencer Year 9 - Samantha Soden-Barton Year 10 - Alex Luu Year 11 - Faith Jones.  Well done to all of them!  You can log on to Hegarty Maths through their website at https://hegartymaths.com/

Educate Award Winners! - posted 20th Nov

Halewood Academy was awarded the Innovative and Creative Literacy Award at this year's prestigious Educate Awards ceremony.  Mr Evans, Miss Archer and Miss Stafford were there to represent the school and were delighted to walk up the red carpet to receive the award.  Mr Evans, speaking about the award, said, "The work that Miss Archer did on the Pride and Promises anthology was worthy of an award - it was a piece of work that brought staff and students together.  Last year, she came up with the idea of publishing an anthology of poems based around the Halewood Pride and Promises theme.  I did not need to be persuaded to give the go ahead as everything about it made sense.  Knowing how much our English staff were doing in terms of promoting the love of reading and writing I knew our students, and lots of staff too, would get involved.  I, myself, submitted a poem and I am extremely proud to be a published poet!  I can't imagine how that feels for a student in Year 8 for example!  Working with Amazon, who published the book, Miss Archer spent a massive amount of time on the project which culminated not just in a published anthology but also a launch event where lots of students read out their poetry to invited guests. The fact that the students involved chose the charity Mermaids UK, a charity which provides support to students experiencing issues with their gender identity, to benefit speaks volumes about Halewood students too."

Building Parent Partnerships - posted 14th Nov

At Halewood we have been working hard to engage with parents as we believe the more a parent is involved in their child's education, the better the prospects are for future success.  Parent partnership has increased year on year between parents, carers, students and the school. At Halewood Academy we believe we are at the stage where we can work towards achieving an accredited LPPA Award as recognition for all our efforts. The award is a long process and will take time to work towards. However, in order for us to do so and to continually improve the parent partnership provision, we would like parents or carers to complete the parent partnership form to support the Academy to reflect upon its current partnership and to support it in its future developments.

Awards Evening 2018 - posted 21st Oct

Students, staff and hundreds of parents celebrated the successes of more than 170 award winners at our annual Awards Evening.  We were delighted that so many of last year's Year 11 joined us on the evening as well as Sue Brett, former Head of PE at Halewood who was our Special Guest.  Head Girl and Head Boy, Katy Allen and Elliot France both gave extremely impressive speeches and for the first time ever, Cian Ryan & Sehar Waseem from our Junior Leadership Team, presented the Staff Awards. There were also great performances on the evening from Cian Ryan, Reece Brown and Matthew Jennings.
