In the first of a new series of Student Blogs, Evie-Jo Kenna, a Student Leader from Year 10, describes how she flew a plane during the Summer.
My name is Evie-Jo Kenna and I am an Air Cadet. Over the Summer I was given the opportunity to go to the annual camp (RAF Shawbury). While I was there, I gained lots of new skills and memories as it was my first camp.
However, I have one experience that I know I will never forget. I took control of a grob tutor (plane) while in flight. My flight drove up to RAF Cosford; we ran through safety procedures, I got my gear on and we were up in the air. While I was in the air the pilot explained all of the controls and what was going on over the radios. I followed the pilot through some moves to see how they felt and then took control and did them myself. I did straight and level flight, rolls left and right, climbing and descending back to straight and level flight; it was amazing! We even took a selfie mid-flight! Overall it was a once in a lifetime experience that I am extremely grateful I was given.
My abilities are pushed every day in my learning environment, which allows me to have the confidence to do this and hopefully many more in the future!
