Our Geography and Travel & Tourism curriculum is designed to:
Follow a spiralled approach to learning allowing pupils to develop on skills learnt at KS3 and transferring these to KS4.
Match the National Curriculums policy of developing an understanding for pupils sense of place and identify, working in tandem with core British Values and cultural capital to promote varying cultures both on a national and global scale.
Develop pupils understanding of their place in society and the wider world, creating well rounded citizens and lasting skills.
Create transferable skills for pupils across a range of subjects and careers.
We aim to do this by:
Plan lessons that ensure the understanding of core knowledge and allowing application of this knowledge to is remembered long term.
Delivering a wide range of both human and physical geography with emphasis on core subject knowledge.
Understanding of context at local, national and international scale.
Teaching our lessons through a RAMAR approach
Applying knowledge through ‘I do, We do, and You do’
Using Knowledge Organisers and Core Knowledge Sheets to support learning in the classroom and at home.
Providing enrichment opportunities such as fieldtrips, both at a reward level in KS3 and through compulsory fieldwork at KS4.
What do we expect learners to get from studying Geography?
Students who study Geography at Halewood Academy will have the opportunity to develop key skills. Our curriculum is purposefully designed to be rich in opportunities for students to develop our RACER core values. Each year builds on previous learning through a spiralled curriculum with key concepts revisited, with varying level of detail and a wide-ranging use of exemplar case studies so that content is never repeated. We use up to date case studies to inspire and promote interest from pupils. Pupils develop an understanding of their place in society and the wider world, developing knowledge of international agreements and unions such as the EU and Commonwealth.
