Tackle the issue of Knowsley residents not fulfilling the physical activity recommendations; we will develop an understanding of healthy, active lifestyles, to create a platform for lifelong participation. (Knowsley Public Health Annual Report).
We aim to do this by:
The PE curriculum builds upon KS2 fundamental skills; and in line with National curriculum requirements, will improve core and advanced skills in a wide range of sports.
KS3 will develop knowledge and understanding of a healthy, active lifestyle. KS3 activities will transfer directly into KS4 studies with sequenced learning and lesson structure within either Sport Science, Physical Education or Core PE.
Offering our pupils GCSE PE, Sport Studies and Sport Science allows a broad range of pupils to achieve within our subject area where they study a wide range of topics, have cross curricular links (Diet, Science, Technology, data), and enhance their understanding of fitness, health and well being.
Our practical curriculum offers a broad range of activity areas including numerous team games, trampolining and fitness. In KS4 there is also an opportunity for outdoor adventurous activities.
Extracurricular opportunities for all year groups will promote lifelong participation and competitive opportunities.
Assessments allow class teachers to gain a clear picture of pupil progress and attainment following a practical activity or after a number of theory topics being covered. Practical assessments include core and advanced skills in isolation and within competitive situations.
Schemes of Learning include ‘flash back’ starters, AfL ‘Green Zone’ assessments, and regular consolidation lessons where class teachers revisit class specific content, which they feel needs more attention, essay focus lessons are planned throughout the year to give pupils a specific focus on extended writing.
Quality assured remote learning provision is provided for all pupils in line with SOW and ‘Teams’ is used by all staff to create a hub of resources for home learning and catch up provision.
