What will I study in P.E at KS3?
At Halewood Academy all pupils have 2 hours a week of Physical Education, where they will experience a wide range of sports and activities. Pupils will also have the opportunity to further develop their skills in extra-curricular clubs after school.
Activities covered include Netball, Trampolining, Hockey, Rugby, Football, Badminton, Handball, Fitness, Athletics, Rounders, Cricket and Basketball. Pupils will also have the opportunity to represent the school in the majority of these sports from the numerous competitions we enter. Assessments in these activities will form part of the pupils PE grade where we use grades 9 – 1.
As well as being a participant, pupils will also have the opportunity to take on other roles such as a coach, referee and leader. Taking on these additional roles will enhance their development in our schools Core Values of resilience, collaboration, aspiration, excellence and respect. It will also allow pupils to be creative, solve problems and improve confidence and communication skills.
By the end of KS3 PE pupils will understand how to achieve a healthy, active lifestyle through regular participation, know how to plan an effective sports sessions, describe how the body responds to exercise and recognise how to keep safe during activity. Their understanding in these areas will be assessed using a written theory test, which will contribute to their overall PE grade.
