The Computer Science curriculum is designed to give pupils the opportunity to: -

  • Develop computational thinking skills through the solving of problems
  • Explore how computers and their components work
  • Write algorithms and computer programs
  • Understand how devices connect together
  • Understand how to use technology safely
  • Apply their knowledge of the subject to wider society issues

We aim to do this by:

Delivering a curriculum that builds on pupils’ KS2 knowledge.

Providing the building blocks of key topics such as algorithms, networking and security in preparation for GCSE.

Incorporating interactive and engaging programming elements at KS3 through the use of programming languages such as ‘Python’.

Going above and beyond the curriculum offering pupils the opportunity to partake in Digital Day and Computer Science education week.

Aligning activities with STEAM (STEM) and offering opportunities linked to STEAM/STEM.

Providing enrichment activities such as the Cyber Girls national competition and a KS3 coding club.

What do we expect learners to get from studying Computer Science?

The skills to solve problems independently using a programming language

Ability to use technology and IT effectively preparing them for whatever career they may pursue

An understanding of the use and increase use of computer science in the real world

A passion for the subject and desire to continue the subject at KS4.

Feel inspired/enthused to pursue the subject after GCSE.
